Funke Akindele named PDP Lagos deputy gov candidate

PDP has selected Funke Akindele to run for deputy governor of Lagos.

Funke Akindele

The Peoples Democratic Party has selected Nollywood actress Funke Akindele as its deputy candidate for governor of Lagos State.

On Tuesday, the actress declared in a video posted to her verified Instagram page that she was running for deputy governor.

She had now been selected to serve as Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, the PDP candidate for governor of Lagos State.

She explained why she decided to run as a running mate in the video she posted on Tuesday.

I saw it as an opportunity to help liberate and enhance the wellbeing of our people, especially the underprivileged youth, women, and girl children, she added.

In addition to taking on this enormous duty, I've made the commitment to work relentlessly and support Jandor in his unquenchable passion to see our beloved Lagos reach its full potential.

The Lagos native, who was born in Ikorodu, left out the name of her husband, Bello, when she gave her name at the end of the video.

This occurs two weeks after her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, better known by his stage name JJC Skillz, announced that they were divorcing.

Things had not been going well between him and the actress for the previous two years, according to Bello, who announced their separation on July 1 via Instagram. He added that all attempts to work out their differences had failed.

The actress, however, has not commented on her divorce from her spouse because she has not yet responded to Bello's allegations.
